Oh, Canada....
Okay, how bizarre is it that, despite my politics and better sensibilities, when I saw my son stand for the Canadian national anthem on his first day of school today, I got all sad and misty?

Aw. I bet that *would* be tough, regardless of your politics (which match mine, I'm sure). Just because you don't like what's going on here, it doesn't mean you don't like *here*, you know?
I keep forgetting that you're in Canada, because I think of you as living inside my iBook.
And HOORAY for the first day of school! Do they say HOORAY in Canada?
I can't tell you how cool I think this is. My middle son is a huge hockey fan and a few months ago sang part of the Canadian national anthem (O Canada!) to me. It gave me shivers.
Patriotism is a funny thing. I've never lived outside the US, so I can't relate, but I imagine you always feel a special something for the national anthem of your homeland. Another country's national anthem will never quite feel the same.
I think it's probably always touching when they do those milestone sorts of things. The first time I heard the GirlChild reciting the Pledge of Allegiance I got all misty eyed.
Wow, just one more nuance of this major change for you - that would make me misty-eyed, too.
